this was the school that
I went to, known with many
names, Maktab Melayu
Kuala Kangsar, or Malay College,
or Sekolah Melayu Jalan Stesyen.
The school that I have never dreamed
of, dwelt upon. The school whose
existence
I have never known. Indeed it was very
unknown.
Established
in 1905 by the proposal of R. J.
Wilkinson, a British, to promote the
growth of a new breed of ethnic Malay for
the government administration, MCKK used
to be the breeding ground only for the
royal families before it started to open
to the commoners like me.
MCKK
did have a girl student in it, somewhere
in the 1960s if I am not
mistaken. And she was the one and only.
Established to have a
resemblance of the Eton College in the
UK, MCKK is considered a
prestigous school, along with others like
Tunku Kursiah College, Sekolah Tun Abdul
Rahman, Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak,
Sekolah Alam Shah, Sekolah Sri
Putri, Sekolah Tun Fatimah as well as the
Royal Military College. I
had so many friends and I did have a
wonderful 5 years spent along with
comrades. I learned a lot of things, for
life, for academic, for friendship. They
were all weaved into a perfect mould for
survival. That's how I know I am not such
a failure right now. Peace be upon all of
us and may Allah bless our school.
